Zombie Spammer PCs

Zombies are synonymous with horror movies, but in the computer world the term has mutated into a complete invasion of privacy and security, lacking any entertainment value.

A simple Trojan virus (a malicious, security-breaching program) can compromise an innocent PC user's machine and turn it into a Zombie Spammer PC, sending out a stream of unwanted spam emails all over the world. Trojans are embedded into legitimate email attachments and once executed the Trojan installs itself into the system.

Hackers who possess the master or server version of the Trojan now have the same access permissions on the PC as the user. The hackers can delete/modify/install software, harvest passwords and login information, spread viruses, and relay hundreds of thousands of spam and virus emails without anyone knowing.

More than 70% of spam is sent directly from Zombie Spammer PCs. These statistics are generated from PCs that have been compromised due to inadequate safety measures such as; firewalls and anti-virus programs not updated, un-scanned opened email attachments, and software applications not updated on a regular basis. Unprotected computer systems are simply unable to defend themselves against these silent takeovers.

PostalCare has a built-in capability to detect Zombie Spammer PCs that are sending out spam and/or virus emails from within an organization. PostalCare then reports the infected PC to the System Administrator. The PC can then be located and secured immediately preventing any more spam emails from being delivered, and any further damage being done.
